Our Story

Holono-Me began life as an idea about how to make a better society.

Holono-Me was founded in 2024 by three international educators with a shared vision of guiding systems through sustainable change. As organisational leaders, the Holono-Me partners noticed a growing divide between what is needed to build relational systems and the extent to which organisations and institutions are set up to make that happen. Technical knowledge, while vital, is only a part of the story and it is the social capital we exchange between us – the extent to which we can work in partnership – that will define our success.

The name Holono-Me originates from the Greek word “holon” meaning the whole that is simultaneously a part, and vice versa. Popularised by Arthur Koestler in his book, The Ghost Machine, he acknowledged the dual tendency of every individual to preserve and assert his or her individuality while functioning as an interdependent part of a larger system. The partners of Holono-Me recognise that partnerships are multidimensional, complex, and nested within each other like Russian dolls: the systems function independently and they also influence each other.

Acknowledging that we live in an increasingly complex world in which the problems we face require collective action to, Holono-Me is dedicated to bringing people together. By strengthening the partnerships that are at the heart of our personal and professional communities, Holono-Me aspires to build a better society that is more capable of addressing its most pressing problems.
